“Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD. . .” Hosea 6:3a
“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was
formed, nor shall there be any after me. I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no
savior. (Isaiah 43:10-11)
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you
have sent. (John 17:3)
Father God, Your desire is for people to truly know You. Throughout Scripture You
revealed Yourself to Your people as they experienced Your presence and work in their
lives.
To Hagar, You were the God Who Sees. (Gen 16:13)
To Abraham, You were the LORD Will Provide. (Gen 22:13-14)
To Moses, You were “I AM.” (Ex 3:14-15)
To Gideon, You were The LORD is Peace. ( Judges 6:23-24)
To Job, You were his Redeemer. (Job 19:25-27)
Jesus, as You walked on this earth, You unveiled Yourself as:
the Bread of Life
the Light of the World
the Gate for the Sheep
the Good Shepherd
the Resurrection and the Life
the Way, the Truth, and the Life
the True Vine. (John 6-15)
O God, traveling this journey of faith with You, I, too, have grown to know You. You
have displayed Yourself as my provider, my sustainer, my healer, my hope, my strength.
You have proven Yourself faithful, trustworthy, merciful, and good.
Yet, like the Israelites, I often behave as if I do not know You. I doubt. I worry. I fear. I
succumb to my own desires, rather than obey Your commands. As You called Your
people back when they strayed from You, You also beseech me to repent. When I do seek
Your forgiveness, You welcome me home as my gracious Father.
O God, may my heart’s cry echo the Apostle Paul’s longing—to count everything as loss
compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. May I desire to
know Him and the power of His resurrection, to share in His sufferings, even become like
Him in His death. (Phil 3:8, 10) Let me live as woman who truly does know Your name,
always placing my complete trust in You, confident in the knowledge You will never forsake those who seek You. (Psalm 9:10) May I continue to press on to know You,
LORD, all the days of my life. (Hosea 6:3a)
In the name of Jesus, the name above all names.
Amen.
For further prayer and meditation:
Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man
boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in
this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love,
justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”
(Jeremiah 9:23-24)
“If you don’t love God, it’s because you don’t know God. . . To know God is to love
God. Not the God who isn’t; the God who is.” Mark Batterson in the book “If”
